The Milkweed Collective of PEC, now under the umbrella of PECAC, will be offering its first “Exploring Creativity in Depth”® program in the community with an adult workshop for artists and non artists who want to access their creative potential and unleash the power of their imagination.

This workshop is about play, discovery, imagination and community. Come and experience the joy of creating for its own sake and, if you would like to join the team of artist/teachers who will be delivering the program in our schools in 2012, come and find out what it is about and hear about the training program.

Holodeck Galleries is an artist run virtual gallery project that seeks to explore the possibilities of networking and selling original art works online to Ottawa patrons. Keith and Renee will be performing in support of The Prince Edward County Children’s Aid Christmas Angel Tree Program.

Keith and Renee will be playing this one show in Milford and then heading to gigs in Toronto and New York City. We are fortunate, indeed. They are promoting their 5th album “Best Day” which was recorded at NB Studios in Winnipeg, MB. The duo co-wrote all the songs on the album with CBG and the album was recorded and created over the span of a year in the exchange district in downtown Winnipeg.

While their latest venture may best be described as country, Keith and Renée defy all labels. Some call them pop, some call them rock—others have called them folk and now country. For Keith and Renée, the genre doesn’t matter as much as creating music with meaning.

The “Ad Hoc Committee for County Community Radio” will hold a public meeting on at 7 PM on Wednesday, November 30th at the Bloomfield Town Hall to kick off planning for a community-owned and operated radio station in Prince Edward County.

The meeting will discuss the purpose of the proposed radio station and the action plan for submitting a license application to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). The meeting will also elect a leadership group who will be responsible for developing the station’s business plan and license application.

The meeting will also consider possible programming ideas for the station. Some of the ideas already under discussion include programs on farm issues, health, local music and the arts, civic issues and local history.

Prince Edward County Mayor Peter Mertens will address the meeting and offer his support.

The meeting is open to all County residents who want to get involved in creating a radio station strictly focused on the needs of residents and visitors.  A donation of $10 is required.

The Ad Hoc Committee, consisting of Prince Edward County residents Conrad Beaubien, David Simmonds, Gary Mooney, Rick Conroy and Treat Hull, was as the result of two larger meetings held in the late spring and early summer to explore the idea of a low-power FM radio station to serve the needs of the County.

There are five locations which are showing works in this cycle – the Regent Theatre lobby,  the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, the Family Health Team Clinic, the Edward Building and Shire Hall. Seventy pieces of art and twenty seven artists are showcased.

This project reminds us that art is for everyone.  It gives us a different perspective on how the world works and can enhance our quality of life. Prince Edward County is considered to be one of the most active and talented arts communities in Ontario and indeed in the country.  We have, right in our own backyard, a diverse array of studios, galleries, arts courses and artistic events.  Sharing art with the whole community is one of the  goals of the Prince Edward County Arts Council . It  provides opportunities to increase the appreciation of the arts by the public, it enhances the environment of the venues, and provides exposure for our local artists.

Many thanks to our participants, both artists and venue administrators, and to Arts On Main Gallery  who have helped with the project.  The committee welcomes feedback, suggestions and volunteer help.

The Fifty Foot Fembot, Dynamic Duke, Jack Hammer, and Hy Anxiety – just four of the 100 characters depicted in this latest series of small unique prints by Picton artist and illustrator Carl Wiens. Quirky, witty, funny, clever, ingenious….these are some of the adjectives that are being used to describe Wiens’ characters. Created by mixing and remixing images of household machines and mechanical parts from his extensive collection of old encyclopaedias, textbooks, and catalogues, the Mecanismos all have attitude and style.

Wiens created the prints at Picton’s Spark Box Studio with help and support from Kyle Topping and Chrissy Poitras. “I developed the series”, says Wiens, “as a response to developments in genetic engineering and artificial intelligence. I wanted to create a little universe of mechanisms.”

During his prolific career in illustration, Wiens has received many awards for work published in magazines such as The New York Times, Esquire, The Wall Street Journal, Time, Forbes, Fast Company, Business Week, Barrons Weekly, UTNE Reader, Vancouver Magazine, Cottage Life, Explore, and Owl. He has often captured the County – his illustrations hang on banners, appear in publications, and have been exhibited in various galleries.

Wiens and the Oeno Gallery are presenting the one hundred framed prints along with other examples of Wiens’ work at an exhibition opening reception on Saturday November 26^th from 6 – 9 PM. Each of the unique Mecanismos framed prints will retail for $250.00 and are now online available for viewing. They can be reserved by calling the Gallery.

In collaboration with the Oeno Gallery, Wiens has also produced a book that catalogues the entire series. In the introduction, designer Gary Taxali writes: “A self described “mad scientist”, it’s utter brilliance on Carl’s part how he achieves absolute unique protagonists and stories from piece to piece […] the result is one grand, wonderful story containing 100 grand, wonderful stories. You’re invited to this mad-scientist’s laboratory to see for yourself.”
